How do I clear assets from Varnish cache using ban expressions? Follow
Note: This article is for only users who want to clear assets from Varnish cache via ban expressions only. Direction for all other use cases should be found elsewhere. If you are unfamiliar with ban expressions, we strongly encourage you to read the official Varnish documentation on bans.
Purging assets from Varnish Cache using Ban Expressions
Sign in to Aperture and navigate to your environment's overview page.
Once signed into Aperture, you will need to navigate to the Clear Cache page by selecting the Clear Cache link in the left-hand navigation bar. See the image below for details.
On the Clear Cache page, you should verify the following:
- That you are on the Clear Cache page for the correct application and environment.
- That you are clearing the Varnish's cache and not another proxy's.
After you have verified the correct application, environment, and proxy have been selected you can now move forward with specifying the ban expression you want to use to clear assets from the cache. Select Custom Varnish ban expression, input your ban expression in the provided input field, and then select Apply Ban. See the image below for details.
Note: You have now implemented your custom ban expression and should see a green checkmark and a message flash across the top of the screen communicating that the action has been performed. Your cache will no longer serve content that is already in your cache and matches your ban expression. New content added to your cache will not follow your ban expression unless you re-implement it.
